Earth Mantle Workshop (EMAW)

Earth Mantle Workshop (EMAW)

The workshop initially focused on the state of knowledge on the European mantle, notably based on the study of peridotite massif and xenoliths brought to the surface by Cenozoic to Quaternary alkaline lavas and kimberlites in the Fenno-Scandian–Ukrainian shield. In 2021, EMAW becomes the Earth Mantle Workshop (EMAW) and now aims at providing a global framework of advanced knowledge on the evolution of the Earth Mantle.

History

The first workshop on European mantle petrology was held in Ferrara (Italy) in 2007, organized by M. Coltorti (Earth Sciences Department, University of Ferrara), H. Downes (Birkbeck College, London University), M. Grégoire (Observatoire Midi Pyrénées, CNRS, Toulouse) and S. Y. O’Reilly (ARC National Key Centre, GEMOC, Macquarie University) and sponsored by the University of Ferrara, the Istituto Universitario di Studi Superiori (IUSS) of the same university, the Gruppo Nazionale di Petrografia (GNP) and the Federazione Italiana di Scienze della Terra (FIST).
