MEREMA (MElting and fluid/melt-rock REactions in the MAntle) is an International School of mantle petrology. The school was originally focused on mantle melting processes and reaction mechanisms between mantle rocks and percolating melts/fluids. It now aims to assess the present state of knowledge about the structure, chemical differentiation, and dynamics of the mantle as a whole system, acquiring information from different methodologic approaches and disciplines (petrology, geochemistry and geophysics)
The school is open to master degree and PhD students, and young researchers in Earth Sciences. The main themes will be approached by theoretical, experimental, thermodynamic, geochemical and macro/microscopic study of mantle lithologies.

History
The first MEREMA was held in the historic lecture centre of the University of Pavia, organized by the Italian Group of Petrography (GNP) of the Italian Society of Mineralogy and Petrology (SIMP), in collaboration with the PhD programs of the Universities of Pavia, Ferrara, Genova, Milano and Modena-Reggio Emilia.
